If your not sure if you laser is working properly you can do a few tests to diagnose the fault with your laser.
You need a few discs to test the console and see where the problem is.

It’s most likely that your laser is fine and the fault lies with your PS3 system software.

Try using a PS3 Laser lens cleaning disc before you
dismantle your console and take your laser out.
did you stop early? What if movie cd and dvd are fine it just freezes when playing games/ has a hard time recognizing a bluRay in the drive ?
